Are Mormons Christians?

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (2Nephi25:26)

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced significant progress in the multi-year renovation of the Salt Lake Temple, marked by the removal of iconic scaffolding and the installation of sacred art glass just weeks before the faith’s global General Conference.

A Visible Transformation

For the first time in over five years, the historic façade of the Salt Lake Temple is fully visible to the public. This week, crews finished dismantling the south tower crane—a fixture of the city skyline since 2020—and removed the final sections of scaffolding surrounding the pioneer-era structure.

The removal of the heavy machinery signals a transition from structural heavy lifting to the refined finishing touches of the project. At its peak, the tower cranes were capable of moving loads up to 35,000 pounds, essential for the seismic upgrades and stone restoration of the 19th-century granite walls.

Sacred Artistry in Glass

In the newly constructed north entrance buildings, crews have completed the meticulous installation of hand-crafted art glass. The panels depict pivotal scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, including:

  • The Ministry to Children: As recorded in the Book of Mormon (3 Nephi 17).
  • The Resurrection: Depicting the Savior’s appearance to Mary Magdalene outside the tomb.

"The artwork adds another meaningful visual element to Temple Square," Church representatives stated, noting that the pieces are intended to help visitors reflect on the Savior’s teachings during their visit.

General Conference and Easter Celebrations

Final construction projects requiring the use of the south tower crane are completed ahead of its dismantling on the Salt Lake Temple renovation site on Wednesday, March 11, 2026

The construction updates coincide with the Church’s invitation for the public to attend or view the April 2026 General Conference, scheduled for April 4–5.

Because this year's conference falls on Easter weekend, the proceedings will include a solemn assembly, a rare and sacred meeting for Church members worldwide. In tandem with the conference, new Easter displays focusing on the Resurrection have been opened across Temple Square to provide a space for quiet reflection.

While the exterior is becoming clearer, the Church also looked forward to the project's conclusion. A massive Salt Lake Temple Celebration is scheduled to run from April 5 through October 1, 2027.

During this six-month window, the temple will be open for public tours seven days a week, allowing visitors from around the globe to step inside the historic building before its formal rededication.
