Are Mormons Christians?

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (2Nephi25:26)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Reaches Record $1.58 Billion in Global Aid

SALT LAKE CITY — In a comprehensive report titled “Caring for Those in Need,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has detailed a massive expansion of its global humanitarian outreach. For the year 2025, the Church reported a staggering $1.58 billion in total expenditures dedicated to welfare, self-reliance, and humanitarian aid.

The report, released Tuesday, outlines a mission that has scaled to meet the increasing volatility of the modern world. Spanning 196 countries and territories, the Church’s efforts in 2025 included 3,514 specific humanitarian projects designed to address everything from immediate disaster relief to long-term systemic poverty.

The Power of Volunteerism

While the financial figures are significant, Church leaders emphasized that the "heart" of the report lies in human hours. In 2025, Church members contributed 7.4 million hours of voluntary service. These hours were spent at welfare facilities, on service missions, and within local community projects, reinforcing the Church’s philosophy that true discipleship is found in "lifting where you stand."

Key Areas of Impact

The 2025 data highlights several critical sectors where aid was concentrated:

  • Food Security: Over 37 million pounds of food were donated to storehouses, facilitating more than 30 million meals for the hungry.

  • Maternal and Newborn Care: In a major initiative led by the Relief Society, 219,000 expectant mothers received prenatal care, while 21.1 million children and mothers were provided with life-saving vitamins.

  • Emergency Response: The Church responded to 569 emergency relief projects, providing immediate assistance during natural disasters and conflict-driven crises.

  • Education and Self-Reliance: More than 142,000 individuals across 10 countries participated in self-reliance courses, aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty through sustainable skills.

Following the Example of the Savior

In a letter accompanying the report, the First Presidency stated, "These acts of service are strengthened by the contributions of time and means from friends of other faiths and trusted organizations who unite with us in this blessed work."

Church President Dallin H. Oaks noted that while the statistics are impressive, they remain an "incomplete report" of the total good done by individuals acting on their own faith. The underlying goal remains constant: to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by reaching out to the marginalized and the weary across every corner of the globe.
