The doors of a new sacred space have opened in northeastern Nevada. Public tours are officially underway for the recently completed Elko Nevada Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This beautiful new house of the Lord stands as a testament to the growth and faith of the community and is the third operating temple in the state.
The open house period, which began with special tours for media and invited guests, will allow the public to walk through the temple and experience its peaceful and sacred atmosphere. This is a rare opportunity to see inside one of the Church's temples, as they are only open to the public for a brief time before being dedicated for sacred ordinances.
Governor Lombardo and Local Leaders Visit
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and a group of local government leaders participated in a media day tour. Their visit highlights the collaborative and supportive relationship between the Church and civic leaders. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, executive director of the Church’s Temple Department, was on hand to participate in a news conference with Governor Lombardo and Elko Mayor Reece Keener, underscoring the importance of this new temple to both the Church and the broader community.
A Sanctuary for the Community
The Elko Nevada Temple will serve Church members from a wide surrounding area, providing a place for them to worship and participate in sacred ceremonies. For many, the completion of this temple will significantly reduce travel time, making it easier to attend. As Nevada's third temple, it joins the Las Vegas Nevada Temple and the Reno Nevada Temple in serving the faithful throughout the state.
The public open house runs from August 30 through September 13, excluding Sundays. This is a perfect opportunity for community members of all faiths to learn more about the purpose of temples and feel the spirit of peace within their walls. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
Elko Welcomes a Temple: A Community Celebration
The Elko community is celebrating a significant milestone with the completion of the Elko Nevada Temple. This new edifice, which officially began public tours on Saturday, August 30, is a beautiful addition to the city and a spiritual haven for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This temple is particularly special as it is Nevada's third operating temple, a sign of the Church's strong presence and growth in the state. The open house provides a chance for everyone—regardless of belief—to step inside and learn about the purpose of these sacred buildings.
A Day with the Governor
The excitement surrounding the temple was evident on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, when Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo joined other local government leaders for an exclusive tour. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, a high-ranking Church leader, addressed the media alongside the governor and Elko Mayor Reece Keener. The governor's presence at the event reflects the positive relationship between the Church and the state of Nevada.
Experience the Peace
Temples are a central part of worship for members of the Church, serving as places where they can make sacred covenants and receive spiritual instruction. The public open house is the only time the general public can tour the interior. The tours are free and provide a look into the stunning craftsmanship and peaceful atmosphere of the temple.
The Elko Nevada Temple public open house will continue through September 13. We invite everyone in the community to come and feel the peace and reverence within its walls. Don't miss this opportunity to see Nevada's newest temple.
