Remembering a Life of Service: Elder Brent Blackburn Passes Away in Missouri

It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Elder Brent Blackburn, a dedicated senior missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Blackburn, 68, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in a tragic accident at the Adam-ondi-Ahman historic site in Missouri, where he had been serving with his wife, Sister Carolyn Blackburn, since April.
According to a statement from Church spokesman Sam Penrod, Elder Blackburn was operating a riding lawn mower on a hillside at the historic site when the mower overturned. His death is a profound loss to his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his selfless service.

A Devoted Servant

Elder and Sister Blackburn were a senior missionary couple from the Helper Utah Stake. Their willingness to leave their home and dedicate their time and talents to the Church is a testament to their deep faith and commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Senior missionaries fill a vital role, providing a lifetime of experience and wisdom to a wide variety of assignments, from historical sites like Adam-ondi-Ahman to humanitarian work and temple service. The Blackburns' service at Adam-ondi-Ahman was a beautiful example of their devotion.

The Significance of Adam-ondi-Ahman

Adam-ondi-Ahman is a sacred and historic location for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believed to be the place where Adam and Eve settled after being cast out of the Garden of Eden. It's a place of peace and reflection, and Elder Blackburn's service there helped to preserve and share its sacred history with visitors from around the world.

A Legacy of Faith and Love

While his time on this earth has come to an end, Elder Blackburn's legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication, and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sister Blackburn and their family during this incredibly difficult time. We join with them in mourning his loss and celebrating the life of a true servant of the Lord.
Funeral services for Elder Brent Blackburn will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center. Viewings will also be held on Friday and Saturday prior to the service. We pray that his family and all who are affected by this tragedy will find peace and comfort in the love of our Heavenly Father.
