Are Mormons Christians?

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (2Nephi25:26)

Light the World 2025: Celebrate the Birth of Christ by Giving to Those in Need

The Todd family children of New York City select items to donate as part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Giving Machine initiative in New York City on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Each Christmas, millions around the world look for meaningful ways to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The Light the World Giving Machines—a global initiative from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—offer a unique and joyful way to do just that: by giving rather than receiving.

Instead of buying a snack or drink from a vending machine, visitors to these special kiosks can purchase life-changing items for those in need. From a beehive for a struggling family in Kenya to a blanket for a child in your own city, every item represents love in action.

Giving Machines Expand Worldwide in 2025

This Christmas season, the Light the World Giving Machines will appear in more places than ever before—126 cities across 21 countries and six continents.

For the first time, the initiative will reach South America, with new locations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and El Salvador, as well as in Austria, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Thailand.

Each Giving Machine is customized for its community, featuring tangible items and services that provide real help to individuals and families—near and far.

How It Works

When you approach a Giving Machine, you’ll find a catalog of options:

Food and clean water for those facing hunger and drought

Warm clothing and shelter for the homeless

Education and job training for families in poverty

Medical care and hygiene kits for those without access

Livestock such as chickens, goats, and beehives that help families become self-reliant

Every item is carefully chosen in partnership with over 500 local and global nonprofit organizations. Twelve of these are international partners, including:

1. American Red Cross

2. CARE

3. Church World Service

4. Days for Girls International

5. Lifting Hands International

6. Mentors International

7. Right to Play

8. Special Olympics

9. Splash

10. UNHCR for USA

11. UNICEF

12. Water for Good

100% of Donations Go Directly to Charity

One of the most inspiring aspects of the Giving Machine program is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all administrative and operating costs. That means every dollar donated goes directly to the chosen nonprofits.

Each organization receives an itemized list of donations and has up to 12 months to deliver the goods or services. While they can use up to 10% for overhead, most choose to use none at all.

Since the program began in 2017, nearly $50 million USD has been donated through Giving Machines worldwide—helping countless families and individuals experience hope and relief.

In 2025, Light the World Giving Machine kiosks will be in more locations than ever — 126 cities across 21 countries and on six continents

Where to Find a Giving Machine Near You

In 2025, you can find Giving Machines in cities across the globe—from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Tokyo, Japan, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Whether you’re in New York City, London, Sydney, Nairobi, or São Paulo, there’s a good chance a red Giving Machine will be lighting up your town square or shopping center this holiday season.

Give Light. Share Joy.

This Christmas, Light the World invites everyone to reflect on the Savior’s birth by serving others in His name. Every small act of giving can bring light to someone’s life—and remind us all that love is the greatest gift of all.

“When we give as Jesus gave, we find the true spirit of Christmas.
