Temple Square Renovation Update: February 2026

The Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. The building will be closed from March 30, 2026, through March 1, 2027, for upgrades needed in preparation for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration.

Conference Center to Close March 30, 2026, Except for General Conference and Major Events

The Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City will close to the general public beginning March 30, 2026, through March 1, 2027, as preparations continue for the upcoming Salt Lake Temple Celebration planned for 2027.

During the closure, the Conference Center will remain open only for April and October 2026 general conferences and other major scheduled events, including Luz de las Naciones and the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts. Conference Center parking facilities and elevator access will remain open and operational throughout the renovation period.

The temporary closure is intended to allow for essential construction, infrastructure improvements, and exhibit development in preparation for the Salt Lake Temple Celebration.

“This operational pause is essential to allow project teams to execute a significantly expanded scope of work and ensure the facility is fully prepared to support the elevated guest experience planned for 2027,” a Church communication to employees stated on Tuesday, February 18, 2026.

All Church departmental use of the Conference Center—including meetings, trainings, and social events—will be suspended for the duration of the closure.

Salt Lake Temple Renovation Progress

The northwest towers of the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, are free of scaffolding, January 30, 2026.

Significant progress continues on the historic Salt Lake Temple. Scaffolding has been removed from portions of the temple, including the northwest towers, revealing more of the original stone exterior. Visitors to Temple Square can now view expanded sections of the temple’s restored stonework.

Interior finish work is advancing steadily. Recent updates include the installation of carpeting, pews, and chandeliers in the baptistries.

Easter at Temple Square

Beginning in late February, guests visiting Temple Square are invited to experience Easter displays highlighting the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. These exhibits will focus on His teachings, miracles, Atonement, and Resurrection through visual installations and interpretive displays.

Salt Lake Temple Celebration

People from around the world are invited to participate in the Salt Lake Temple Celebration, scheduled to take place from April through October 2027. The celebration will commemorate the reopening of the temple following its extensive renovation.
