SALT LAKE CITY — Under the direction of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released its March 2026 updates to the General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The latest revisions prioritize ministerial clarity and doctrinal focus, specifically emphasizing the central role of ordinances and covenants in the work of salvation and exaltation.
Key Revisions and Policy Updates
The March 2026 release introduces several significant changes to Church operations and leadership guidelines:
- Doctrinal Emphasis: Chapter 1 has been reorganized to underscore covenants as the foundation of the faith, supported by new, detailed explanations of the blessings associated with each saving ordinance.
- Leadership and Governance: New guidelines clarify presiding authorities for district and branch conferences. Additionally, the Church has updated policies regarding ward Sunday School presidencies, now allowing for the calling of both men and women to these positions.
- Digital Integration: Members can now access patriarchal blessings through digital platforms, marking a shift toward increased electronic record accessibility.
- Youth and Children’s Programs: The handbook provides updated duration standards for Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women camps, alongside new terminology for Primary "super activities" (formerly referred to as day camps).
- Missionary Service: Updates have been made regarding the eligibility ages for young women and single men serving as senior missionaries.
New Guidance on Environmental Stewardship
Notably, the Church has added a dedicated section (38.8.6) regarding "Caring for the Earth." This addition provides a formal framework for members and leaders on the importance of environmental stewardship as a spiritual responsibility.
