Are Mormons Christians?

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. (2Nephi25:26)

From Rock Bottom to Redemption: One Man’s Journey Back to Faith

I heard God speak to me for the first time: if I stayed on that path, I wouldn’t live much longer," he shares. "I didn’t feel fear. I felt His love.

 — For many, the path of faith is a straight line. For others, it is a harrowing U-turn executed at the edge of a cliff.

In a powerful account of transformation, one individual is sharing the story of how a life defined by rebellion, substance abuse, and legal turmoil was reclaimed through what he describes as the "miraculous" power of Jesus Christ.

The Weight of Silence

The descent began early. Despite being raised in the Church, a childhood tragedy—his mother becoming bedridden—planted seeds of resentment that grew into a decade of defiance.

"I grew angry," he recalls. "I couldn’t understand why God would allow that."

That anger manifested as high school rebellion, leading to him dropping out, moving out, and eventually severing ties with his faith entirely. However, the independence he chased proved to be an illusion. Following a failed business venture and a sense of total abandonment, he spiraled into a cycle of drugs and alcohol that brought him to the brink of suicide.

A Prompting on the Road

The turning point arrived not in a cathedral, but behind the wheel of a car. Feeling a sudden, "clear prompting" to visit his brother, he received a priesthood blessing that would alter his trajectory.

"I heard God speak to me for the first time: if I stayed on that path, I wouldn’t live much longer," he shares. "I didn’t feel fear. I felt His love."

The Hard Road to Surrender

Recovery was not an overnight success. After a period of "white-knuckling" his return, a devastating miscarriage with his girlfriend and continued struggles led to a moment of total surrender.

A pivotal conversation with his Bishop provided the clarity he had been missing: the answer wasn't just in "trying harder," but in the person of Jesus Christ.

"When I walked back into church, I felt like the Savior Himself was welcoming me home," he says.

A Miraculous New Chapter

The transformation that followed was both internal and external. While the process of getting sober was grueling, he credits divine intervention for the doors that opened afterward. In a turn of events he describes as miraculous, pending legal charges were dropped, clearing the path for him to serve a full-time mission.

Today, he spends his time serving in the temple, finding a level of peace he once thought was lost forever. His story serves as a living testament to his favorite mantra: "Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future."

"I’m not who I used to be," he concludes. "I’m a child of God. My future began the moment I chose to come back."
