Elder Dieter F . Uchtdorf Five Suggestions |
Drawing upon the teachings of Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, here are five suggestions for disciples of Jesus Christ to follow the example of those in ancient times.
1. Draw Close to God
Just as ancient disciples sought a personal relationship with the Savior, we should strive to draw close to God in our daily lives. This means making time for personal prayer, scripture study, and meditation. It's about nurturing a connection with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, seeking their guidance, and feeling their love. The more we draw close to them, the more we can emulate their example.
2. Fill Your Heart with Love for Others
Ancient disciples were known for their profound love and charity. They lived the commandment to love one another, serving those around them without condition. We can follow this example by actively seeking to fill our hearts with love for everyone, including those who may be difficult to love. This love inspires us to serve, to forgive, and to be a source of light in a world that needs it.
3. Strive to Walk the Path of Discipleship 🚶♂️
Discipleship isn't a passive state; it's an active journey. Ancient disciples dedicated their lives to walking the path of discipleship, leaving behind old ways to follow the Master. We can do the same by living according to gospel principles, making and keeping sacred covenants, and striving to become more like the Savior each day. This path requires consistent effort and faith.
4. Share What Is in Your Heart
The disciples of old were not afraid to share what was in their hearts—their testimonies of Christ. They bore witness of His power, His teachings, and His Atonement. We are called to do the same. This doesn't always mean preaching from a pulpit; it can be as simple as sharing a heartfelt testimony with a friend, a family member, or on social media. Sharing our feelings about the Savior invites the Spirit and strengthens our own faith.
5. Trust the Lord to Work His Miracles
Finally, the ancient disciples had unwavering trust in the Lord to work His miracles. They believed in His power to heal, to provide, and to save. In our lives, we can exercise similar trust. Whether facing a small trial or a great challenge, we can turn to the Lord with faith, knowing that He has the power to bless us, to strengthen us, and to perform miracles—both large and small—according to His will.
